On September 9, 2024 and January 24, 2025, I was honored to present on the issue of secondary trauma to 100 Judges from the Cook County Courts. Judges in the Domestic Violence, Protective Order, Juvenile Justice, Child Protection and Probate Courts have been involved in interactive sessions designed to not only recognize secondary trauma, but to also learn tools to mitigate it's effects.
Under the leadership of Justice Elizabeth Rochford of the Illinois Supreme Court and Chief Judge Timothy Evans, Presiding Judge of Cook County Courts, a fruitful, honest discussion was held on the importance of judicial well-being. The seminar was moderated by Deputy Director from the Commission on Professionalism, Stephanie Villinski. My co-presenter was Dr. Diana Uchiyama, Executive Director of the Illinois Lawyers Assistance Program. We are planning o train all of the judges in Cook County over the next several months.
