I was very honored to deliver the opening plenary for the Drexel University College of Medicine- Behavioral Science, 33rd Annual Forensic Rights and Treatment Conference year's theme is "Contemporary Issues Impacting Forensic Services." The Director of this Division, Chris Owens, has done an incredible job in making this Conference an ongoing success and I am humbled to be associated with the incredible speakers who presented.
The plenary, which had 195 participants, was about exploring the term culture. Understanding and honestly reflecting on our mindset and the impact of our societal and familial upbringing on how we view the world allows us to increase awareness of our thoughts, actions, and speech and insure, as humanely as possible that they come from a place of wisdom instead of raw emotions.
The afternoon session introduced the 107 participants to Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor's Whole Brain Living. Tools such as Dr. Bolte-Taylor's BRAIN huddle encourage us to always take a breath before we react to develop a course of action that is healthy and in alignment with our ethics and values.
The participants were incredible in their willingness to share their thoughts in this on-line forum and be engaged in a discussion that added so much substance to the presentations. I am looking forward to continue learning and sharing my experiences in a way that brings the largest benefit to the providers and communities they serve.
