First Breath/Movement classes for staff at Federal Correctional Institution-Florence

After leading breath and movement classes in facilities for 8 years, I finally got to lead a class for the employees at Federal Correctional Complex- Florence. Much gratitude to the wellness committee at the facility and to those who showed up for our first session.

The staff at institutional and correctional facilities are under a great deal of stress and pressure. They are exposed to trauma from what they witness at the facility, have been under situations through prior employment or military deployment or living in households where there was/is violence and coercive controlling behavior. There is also organizational stress as hiring freezes, cuts in Pay, and being understaffed has led to double shifts being worked while pay is reduced. , recognizing and supporting the administration, staff, and correctional officers at facilities, enhances the quality of life for everyone involved in that aspect of the criminal justice system. I have previously discussed the impact on my life of developing these lifelong practices and I’m very blessed to be able to share what I have learned from a wide variety of teachers with anyone who is open to learning the benefits of mine/body connective practices.

Also a deep respect and appreciation for all those who take their time to share their skills, knowledge and heart practices with people who are incarcerated not only in the United States, but around the world.
